We went from the set of "Bagdad Cafe" to the "Motown 30th Anniversary Special" at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood (where CLOSED Whoopi did a hilarious spoof of set Diana Ross to open the show) to a photo shoot for Vogue in a plush studio overlooking Sunset Strip (with Whoopi wearing a red-hot, skintight, midthigh Gianni Versace number). One night she received a humanitarian award from Women in Show Business. It was a memorable evening because I got to watch singer Little Anthony bring the house down and then Pia Zadora put it to sleep. She set a new record for unsolicited encores. Whoopi sat stoically throughout until, sometime around midnight, she was finally called to come up to the podium to receive her award (which at that point should have come with a campaign ribbon and a Purple Heart).
